Godotes #10 - Github Repo

This is how a healthy, growing project is supposed to look like. The Godot repository is coming in force!

Here's the situation: I'm A terrible developer Github Sucks!  And getting this data has been a colossal pain in the ass.

"Making more than ~40 requests in a minute or so? that's a paddlin'.
You wanna get the issues, pulls, and merges individually? nah, here's everything together and you'll need to clean it. And we'll change the dates you're getting. Also, f*** you." - Github, probably

But really, I'm the worst.

Regardless, the data is great. There's just something about watching the Godot project go from a couple of issues a month on 2014, to 300+ minimum after the latter part of 2017.

Just look at that!

The pink bar marks the creation (at least according to graphtreon) of the godotengine Patreon account. It reached $2,434 that month.

If you need any more reason to donate to Godot, just look at the post-Patreon growth. The change it's so great, it's like looking at a before and after weight loss picture.

I think it's already well established that the Godot project is one of the top repos on Github: It's The biggest game development related project. And It's not uncommon to find the repo listed on Github's Top repositories lists. Just by the number of stars, it takes position 143 overall.

Hell, it was listed number 40 on the 100 Most Valuable Repositories back in the ancient times of May 2019, before the world ended.

And yet, getting a little closer to the full picture can at least provide some help in understanding just how much work has been put into the engine since its inception. At least it does for me.

And I'm not just referring to the core contributors either.

Don't take me wrong, they are awesome. I was originally going to put Akien on the chart, but his line goes, obviously, almost hand to hand with the merged pull request line.

But the project also has the collaboration of 3,697 devs with a single submission (I'll be there one day god dammit!) and there are 6,051 with 9 or fewer contributions. That's 92% of all contributors! and they have made 12,106 contributions combined.

I REALLY wanna see what'll happen when Godot 4 is launched.

For now, I'm kipping this one short and sweet. Maybe I'll add more numbers on another issue, but I think that having the full chart for the project is good enough for now.
